13+ Common Entrance Tutors

Some of our tutors specialise in providing tuition in 11+ or 13+ Common Entrance Examinations. They will help to prepare your child for the exams so that they can feel confident and can reach their full potential.

Common entrance is often known as just CE. These are the examinations that determine whether pupils can obtain entry to a particular public secondary school. The exams are set by ISEB (Independent Schools Examination Board) but the papers are marked by the relevant public secondary school. The core subjects are Maths, English and Science but often include one or more of French, German, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Geography, History and Religious Studies. Sometimes pupils sit these exams at different levels, depending on the requirements of the public secondary school and the pupil's abilities. There are usually three exam sessions per year (January, June and November) with June being the most common. Common Entrance Tutoring is very popular and it will ensure that your child has the best possible chance of success. We tutor children from many of the local Preparatory schools, including Cundall Manor, Belmont Grosvenor, Queen Mary School, Ampleforth, Harrogate Ladies College, Queen Ethelburgas College and Aysgarth School. English Papers There are two papers both of which cover reading and writing. Science Papers These are divided up into three sections: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Maths Papers There are two papers, one where a calculator is allowed and another where it not allowed. There is also a mental maths test which is done by listening to a recording.
